| The castle on the hill, Fort St Elme, today privately owned, is only a 20 minute walk from the house. If unable to make it on foot then consider taking Le Petit Train tour to the top (leaves regularly from beside the post office). Buit in 1552 by the Spanish it was part of an important coastal defense system for many centuries.
